John Stones has admitted feelings of "anger and frustration" towards Manchester City's dramatic collapse against Real Madrid.

An Erling Haaland penalty put City 2-1 up in Tuesday's Champions League play-off first leg, but former Cityzen Brahim Diaz tied things up with four minutes to go before Jude Bellingham's stoppage-time winner sealed a famous comeback.

It was the latest blow in a long line of frustrating results for City this season and, with the Premier League champions now at risk of failing to qualify for the knockout stages of the Champions League, Stones did not shy away from voicing his disappointment.

"I don't know how to put it into words straight away, it's so raw and frustrating for everyone," Stones said after the final whistle.

"We were in the game until so late and then it's two situations that happen and we concede. It's frustrating as a defender to come away with that result. It's a feeling of anger and frustration."

Manager Pep Guardiola insisted everyone at the club must take responsibility for the team's struggles - "It's just bad decisions, that's all. Everyone has to take accountability. I take it. It's not about you and me, it's everyone" - and Stones agreed with his boss' assessment.

"We need to see games out better," the centre-back continued post-game. "The manager said we need to take accountability for what we do on the pitch, I think we do that. We need to step up when these bad moments happen.

"We had a great opportunity to go to the Bernabeu with a 2-1 lead. It's not done. We have to stay positive, which is difficult now.

"As the manager says we need to look at ourselves and take accountability."
