Fran Garcia injured

Indeed, according to MARCA, Fran Garcia has been sidelined with an injury and and is now a major doubt for Real Madrid’s next fixture against Leganes at the Santiago Bernabeu on 29 March.

The Spaniard sustained the injury late in the game against Villarreal, days after they lost fellow left-back Ferland Mendy to an injury during the UCL tie vs Atletico Madrid.

A viral image captured the toll of the match on Real Madrid players, who were visibly exhausted after their efforts against Villarreal.

Jude Bellingham, Kylian Mbappe, and even substitutes like Vinicius Jr. ended the match struggling physically. Among them was Garcia, seen lying on the pitch.

Initially, his reaction went unnoticed as several teammates collapsed on the turf when referee Gil Manzano blew the final whistle. However, Garcia’s distress was not just fatigue but the result of muscle discomfort suffered in one of the game’s final moments.

The left-back finished the match injured, and a member of Real Madrid’s medical staff attended to him on the pitch.

Given the high number of players needing medical attention, his case did not initially raise particular concern. However, it has now been confirmed that Garcia has suffered an injury to the abductor muscle in his left leg.

A chance for Victor Valdepenas?

With Ferland Mendy also sidelined and expected to return in time for Real Madrid’s UCL QF tie vs. Arsenal, Real Madrid’s main aim is to get Fran Garcia fit and ready to face Leganes right after the international break.

However, in case he is not ready, it might open up a window of opportunity for youngster Victor Valdepenas – an academy talent capable of playing at centre-back and left-back.

One of the academy’s most highly regarded prospects, the youngster already travelled with the first team to Villarreal and might be given a chance vs Leganes.
