Juventus have set their sights on Arsenal loanee Nuno Tavares, who looks destined to sign a permanent contract with Lazio in June. Per Corriere dello Sport, the Biancocelesti will trigger a buyout clause in the left-back’s loan agreement in the summer amid reports the Turin giants could prise the Portuguese star away from Rome afterward.
Nuno Tavares joined Lazio on a season-long last summer after failing to secure regular first-team football in North London. His career has blossomed at the Stadio Olimpico, with the 25-year-old emerging as one of Serie A’s best-performing full-backs.
Tavares has been omnipresent in Marco Baroni’s set-up, making 21 league appearances while recording an eye-catching eight assists. As a result, Lazio are naturally keen to exercise a ridiculous €5 million purchase clause. However, Juventus continue to keep close tabs on Tavares.
Igor Tudor’s charges are bracing up for a transitional summer. With their Champions League qualification quest on the brink of disaster, Juventus may undergo substantial personnel changes in the coming months. Indeed, several first-team stars could leave the Allianz Stadium.
Sought-after wingback Andrea Cambiaso is among the leading candidates to spearhead the exodus. Manchester City and Manchester United have already notified Juventus of their interest, forcing Cristiano Giuntoli to examine the market for potential replacements.
Tavares is an exciting profile, yet Juventus may need to fork out north of €15m to convince Lazio to sanction the ex-Benfica starlet’s departure. There’s no doubt Baroni’s side will fight tooth and nail to fend off Bianconeri’s advances.
