LaLiga could host its first ever game on foreign soil as early as this December, according to a report in the Daily Mail.
Barcelona are set to host Atlético de Madrid during the weekend of December 22nd at their temporary Olympic Stadium venue, but it’s been suggested that all parties are working together to put the game on at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami.
That said, the Spanish Football Federation, as well as UEFA and FIFA would need to approve the decision, and LaLiga have faced opposition over their ideas to host games in the US in the past.
‘It’s a mark of respect to the US fans [of La Liga],” President Javier Tebas told reporters last summer. “We are seeing NBA and NFL playing in Europe or in Mexico. This would resonate in the American market.”
Barça are currently playing their games Montjuïc while renovations on Camp Nou are ongoing, but the Olympic venue only holds a maximum of 45,000 supporters.
