Kalvin Phillips’ salary demands will prove to be a stumbling block if Leeds United are to re-sign their former midfielder in the summer, as per a new report.

Phillips is expected to leave Manchester City on a permanent basis when he returns from a season-long loan at Ipswich Town.

The 29-year-old has three years left on his current deal at the Etihad Stadium but having played just 914 minutes in 31 outings in two seasons at Manchester City, Phillips will most certainly be moved on at the end of the season.

It hasn’t worked out for the England international under Pep Guardiola, who has publicly criticised Phillips for having been overweight when reporting for club duty in previous seasons.

Leeds United have been linked with a move for Phillips, Leeds born and bred, when he finishes a season-long loan stint at Ipswich Town.

Daniel Farke’s side are currently joint-top of the EFL Championship and are set to win a return to the English top-flight next season.

Phillips, who spent the second half of the 2023-24 season on loan at West Ham United, is likely to have played his last minutes in a Manchester City shirt.

According to the information of Isaac Johnson writing for Leeds Live, officials at Elland Road have outlined concerns over Kalvin Phillips’ wage demands as they weigh up a possible summer move for their academy graduate.

The Whites are expected to invest wisely when they win promotion back to the English top-flight and as things stand, Phillips’ wage demands would hinder a potential reunion at the end of the season.

Phillips is likely to attract interest from a host of clubs and Manchester City will be keen to get market value for the man they paid £45 million to sign in the summer of 2022.
