Manchester United defensive pair Leny Yoro and Tyrell Malacia will not return to first team action until next month.

The Red Devils suffered an unprecedented amount of injuries last season and hoped at the start of the campaign this would be different.

Sadly, this season has followed a similar trend with Jonny Evans dropping out of training before last night’s match in Turkyie and Antony becoming the latest casualty as he left the stadium on crutches.

Kobbie Mainoo, Mason Mount, Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw also remain out of action and unlikely to make a comeback until November at the earliest.

Neither Yoro or Malacia have made an appearance for United this season, with the latter not having kicked a ball in anger since May 2023.

Both players have returned to training on grass but it seems they will not be able to feature until next month or even after the next international break.

The Manchester Evening News report that “Leny Yoro and Tyrell Malacia are unlikely to be fit enough to return for Manchester United before November and won’t make it back in time for next week’s Carabao Cup clash with Leicester City.”

“Yoro has been out since the end of July with a metatarsal injury, but he has been stepping up his rehabilitation in recent weeks and was back training on the grass last week as part of an individual programme.”

The plan is to put the expensive summer signing through a mini pre-season to build up fitness and Yoro is expected to make his official debut at some point next month, most likely after the final international break of the year.

Malacia on the other hand has been out of action for so long that he hasn’t had a pre-season since 2022. He is currently undergoing one at the moment to get up to match fitness.

“His return to action could come in a behind-closed-doors game”, and certainly won’t be in next week’s cup fixture against Leicester.

With United continuing to suffer a plethora of injuries, the return of both players will be eagerly anticipated by Erik ten Hag, to bolster the dwindling options in the defensive department.

In addition, due to the seriousness of both injuries it is unlikely that the Red Devils will take any unnecessary risks with either player and prefer to err on the side of caution in regard to their return to the field of play.
