Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap is reportedly eager to join Manchester United, preferring the move over other interested clubs, and the absence of European football next season hasn’t deterred him.
United will be without Europe next term following their loss to Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League final.
The Red Devils now face a double blow – not only will their transfer budget be significantly reduced, but their appeal to prospective signings in the market has also taken a hit.
Ruben Amorim is keen on a new striker after another difficult campaign for Rasmus Hojlund, and Delap appears to be the club’s top target.
Despite Ipswich’s relegation being sealed weeks ago, Delap has had an outstanding individual campaign, netting 12 goals and adding two assists in 36 Premier League outings. He’s consistently posed problems for defenders, often leading the line impressively for the Tractor Boys.
Alongside United, other Premier League teams mentioned to be eyeing the England youth international include Chelsea, Everton and Newcastle.
Ipswich boss Kieran McKenna recently confirmed that Delap has been given permission to speak to suitors ahead of the summer transfer window. A few days ago, The Athletic revealed that Delap has already held talks with United.
All through, it’s been consistently maintained that the 22-year-old would only accept to move to United if they clinched Champions League football.
However, The i Paper reveal that the opposite is actually true.
According to Peter Hall and Mark Douglas, “There is confidence among many at the club that Liam Delap can also be snared.”
“He is understood to favour a move to United over another interested party, Chelsea, again with European football not a decisive factor.”
Delap is available for £30m.
