Ligue 1 Predictions, Round 23
GFFN editor-in-chief Luke Entwistle and GFFN’s Raphaël Jucobin face off in our Ligue 1 predictions competition. It’s three points for a correct score, two points for a correct score difference, and one point for a correct result. Who will come out on top at the end of the season?
SCORES
Raphaël: 121
Luke: 143
ille had to be persistent last week but they were more than deserving of their 2-0 win over Rennes, with both goals coming late on and in the wake of a Christopher Wooh red card in the 74th minute. It was an important win in their season, to be an in-form side – away – and after the humiliation against Le Havre just one week earlier. It was an emotional game with Nabil Bentaleb making his return from a heart attack, coming off the bench, and scoring. Beyond the narrative, he will make a difference for LOSC going forward if he can reach the levels that he reached at the back end of last season.
Monaco are a slightly baffling proposition of late. On the face of it, the 7-1 drubbing of Nantes last week, the biggest win during the Adi Hütter era, is more than comprehensive. The reality, however, is somewhat different. What that result masks is the first seven minutes, during which Monaco went behind and conceded two other notable chances. They looked vulnerable, even after Nantes went down to 10 men after just the seventh minute. Ultimately, playing 90 minutes with a man advantage, they wore Les Canaris down. The Principality club will be hoping that, despite the early scare, that win will provide them with the confidence to show the form that saw them touted as a title contender earlier in the campaign. There will be some key absences, with Aleksandr Golovin notably out for a few weeks, but there is still plenty of quality in this side. But Lille are equally blessed with quality making this one very close to call.
