Liverpool will not let right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold leave the club this month, new reports claim, despite a renewed attempt from Real Madrid to get a deal over the line.

With Alexander-Arnold entering the final six months of his contract this month, Madrid tried to strike a cut-price deal on the first day of the transfer window, only for Liverpool to stress they had no desire to do strike a January deal.

Madrid have continued talks with Alexander-Arnold in the background and are believed to have already reached an agreement with him over a free transfer in the summer. That sparked another January approach, with Madrid keen to sign Alexander-Arnold immediately to help bring an end to their injury crisis in defence.

However, MARCA state Liverpool have once again made it clear that they will not let Alexander-Arnold leave before the window closes. Not only do they not want to lose such a key figure while they are pushing to win both the Premier League and Champions League, but Liverpool are in too strong of a financial position to be tempted into accepting a cut-price deal for Alexander-Arnold. Madrid are believed to have proposed a fee of around £20m.

While rejecting Madrid's latest approach leaves Liverpool vulnerable to losing Alexander-Arnold for free in the summer, there appears to be a belief inside Anfield that the right-back's impact on a title-winning campaign is worth more than Madrid are prepared to offer.

Madrid are now resigned to finishing the season with their current squad, much to the private frustration of manager Carlo Ancelotti.
