The Reds will lift the Premier League trophy in front of a home crowd
Liverpool and Crystal Palace will preview next season’s Community Shield on Sunday, as the Premier League champions host the FA Cup winners at Anfield.
The title has been wrapped up for some time now, confirmed with an emphatic 5-1 win over newly crowned Europa League champions Tottenham in April, and they will finally be presented the trophy on Sunday, kicking off the end-of-season celebrations in earnest.
Trent Alexander-Arnold will play his last match for the club, set to leave Liverpool when his contract expires at the end of the season. He was loudly booed in his first appearance since announcing the decision, with some fans accusing him of disloyalty, and will hope for a better reception as he bids farewell this weekend.
Crystal Palace are still riding the high of last weekend’s FA Cup triumph, the first major honour in the club’s history. They followed it up with a 4-2 comeback win over Wolves in midweek, and will close their campaign on Merseyside before holding a trophy parade in South London the next day.
Having now qualified for next season’s Europa League, their first taste in European football, Palace’s sole goal for the day will be to end the campaign on a high note, and what better way to do that than by beating the champions?
Liverpool vs Crystal Palace is scheduled for a 4pm BST kick-off on Sunday, May 25, 2025.
The match will take place at Anfield.
TV channel: In the UK, the game will be televised live on Sky Sports Premier League, with coverage starting from 3pm BST ahead of a 4pm kick-off.
Live stream: Sky Sports subscribers can also catch the contest live online via the Sky Go app and website.
Live blog: You can follow all the action on matchday via Standard Sport’s live blog.
Free highlights: The Sky Sports app and YouTube channel will show highlights from full time, with Match of the Day broadcasting on BBC One at 10:30pm.
The Eagles will leave Adam Wharton at home for their trip to Liverpool after he suffered a head injury in the FA Cup final. Marc Guehi also sustained a head injury after catching a shot in the face from close range at Wembley, but Oliver Glasner said he could return in time for the match.
Chadi Riad and Cheick Doucoure will both miss out, too, having been sidelined for much of the season with long-term knee injuries.
Alexis Mac Allister is the only absentee for Liverpool. He is carrying a hip injury, which Arne Slot has said is not serious but requires rest to properly heal ahead of next season.
He said: “Alexis will not play for us this season anymore. He needs rest at this moment in time to recover completely and to be ready for the start of next season, but it will be no problem for him to be back [for 25/26].
“I think he played throughout the last part of the season with the Argentinian mentality he has. Never gives up, no matter what he feels, but it is not smart to play a player that has not a big injury, but something to take a risk with.”
Since winning their respective titles, Liverpool and Palace have had very different fortunes. The Reds have hit the beach, losing two and drawing one since clinching the Premier League, while the Eagles produced a remarkable comeback win over a strong Wolves side in their sole outing since the FA Cup final.
Palace players and fans alike will want nothing more than to seal this historic season with a win over the champions. With Monday’s victory parade at the forefront of their minds, they will not be short on motivation. Long may the Palace party continue.
