Liverpool's next five Premier League games after Merseyside derby

Liverpool may live to regret the equaliser conceded in the 98th minute of the Merseyside derby against Everton, a missed opportunity to put one hand on the Premier League trophy.

The Reds needed a confidence-boosting win after a shock FA Cup defeat at the hands of Plymouth Argyle. It wasn't a polished performance at Goodison Park but a second half goal from Mohamed Salah looked like it would give the Premier League leaders a 2-1 win.

Having now played their game in hand, Liverpool still managed to extend their lead over Arsenal in the title race. But a seven-point gap doesn't feel quite as solid as nine would have, especially having failed to overcome the sudden wobble and some tough games now on the horizon.

Here are Liverpool's next five Premier League fixtures.

Liverpool vs Wolverhampton Wanderers (16/02/25)

Liverpool have a short turnaround between the Merseyside derby and their next Premier League encounter, with the Reds hosting Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday afternoon. It's a fixture that has brought them great joy over the past few seasons, with 12 victories in the last 14 clashes in all competitions.

The reverse fixture in late September was one of said triumphs - Mohamed Salah's penalty securing three important points at Molineux - and Sunday's battle at Anfield is one of Liverpool's most straightforward fixtures over the next few months.

Wolves enjoyed victory over Aston Villa recently but still find themselves sat perilously close to the relegation zone. They are just two points ahead of 19th-placed Ipswich Town.

Aston Villa vs Liverpool (19/02/25)

Trips to Villa Park have grown in difficulty since Unai Emery's arrival in the Midlands. Aston Villa have already beaten Bayern Munich, Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur on home soil this season and will be excited for the visit of the league leaders as they aim to climb the table.

Despite Villa's resurgence under Emery, Liverpool haven't tasted defeat in this fixture since their shock 7-2 humiliation in 2020/21. The Reds have won seven of their last nine against the Villans and will be desperate to extend their advantage at the summit of the table.

They must avoid the fate that befell them at Villa Park last term, however, with their hosts scoring twice in the final five minutes to earn a 3-3 draw.

Man City vs Liverpool (23/02/25)

Man City and Liverpool have shared plenty of title fights in years gone by but there will be no crown for the former this term. The reigning Premier League champions are in crisis after an incredibly underwhelming campaign, with December's 2-0 defeat at Anfield epitomising the lethargy and disorganisation that Pep Guardiola's side have played with throughout 2024/25.

The Reds will want to take advantage and secure a rare victory at the Etihad Stadium - a venue they haven't triumphed at in the Premier League since 2015. Mohamed Salah and Co. should take advantage of disarray in the City backline, with Rodri's absence still causing mass issues for the Manchester club.

The Etihad has previously proven an impenetrable fortress but City have lost at home three times this term, while also dropping points to Everton and Arne Slot's former side Feynoord.

Liverpool vs Newcastle (26/02/25)

The Carabao Cup final sees Liverpool and Newcastle United lock horns in mid-March, but the second Premier League duel between the sides this season comes at the end of February. The Magpies will be keen to continue their strong form and put an end to their woeful run at Anfield.

Newcastle haven't won on the red half of Merseyside since 1995 and have lost six of their last seven visits. Despite their recent ascent under Eddie Howe, the Magpies have continued to struggle against Liverpool, although they did secure an impressive 3-3 draw with Slot's side earlier this season thanks to Fabian Schar's late equaliser.

Not only would victory move Liverpool closer to the Premier League title, it would also serve as a psychological blow to Newcastle before their Wembley meet-up.

Liverpool vs Southampton (08/03/25)

Due to the bizarre nature of scheduling in modern football and an international break, Liverpool have just one Premier League fixture during March. That comes early doors at home to bottom of the table Southampton, whom they have beaten twice in hard-fought victories at St Mary's Stadium earlier this term.

Narrow wins on the south coast have been surprisingly challenging but Southampton should have no chance at Anfield. The Saints have scored fewer and conceded more than any other Premier League team this term and look destined for relegation.
