Gustav Isaksen has been in stellar form for Lazio lately, most recently deciding the game against Viktoria Plzen with a stunner in added time. As revealed by Daniele Longo, AC Milan had the chance to sign him twice before the Biancocelesti.

The Danish right-winger arrived in Serie A in the summer of 2023, as Lazio secured his services from Midtjylland for €12m in August. However, he could have ended up at Milan before that as Geoffrey Moncada was, and still is, a great admirer.

According to Daniele Longo of Calciomercato.com, Moncada recommended Isaksen to Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara in 2022, when he was still the chief scout of Milan. Then, when he got promoted to technical director in 2023, he made Isaksen the Plan B to Samuel Chukwueze; a signing that took a long time to get over the line.

The rest is history, as they say, and Milan are perhaps looking back at their decisions with some regret. Especially given Chukwueze has been far from decisive with just eight goals and four assists, while Isaksen has bagged eight goals and nine assists.

The 23-year-old has also looked much better performance-wise, which is something that matters a lot besides the main numbers.
