Luis Enrique says he “doesn’t agree at all” with Mikel Arteta’s assessment that Arsenal were better than his PSG side across the two legs of their Champions League semi-final.
The French champions secured a 2-1 second-leg win in Paris to beat the Gunners 3-1 on aggregate and progress to the final of the competition.
But afterwards, Arsenal boss Arteta claimed his team were “much better” than PSG and deserved more from the tie.
“The feedback that I got straight away from their bench is that we were much better than them,” he told TNT Sports afterwards.
“I don’t think there has been a better team in the competition (than Arsenal) so far, from what I’ve seen.”
But in response, the PSG boss said: “I don’t agree at all.
“Mikel Arteta is a great friend but I don’t agree at all.
“I think they played in a clever way and they got the match to the right moment for them because they played in the way they want and love to play.
“But I think in the two legs, we score more goals than them and in football that’s the most important thing.
“I have to say, Arsenal played a great match and we suffered a lot. I think it’s a match where we suffered the most.
“I think we deserved to get to the final. They are a great team as well but I repeat, we scored more goals and we played in a great way in the first leg and in the second half in the second leg, it was a different match, and we could score even more goals.”
Fabian Ruiz gave PSG the lead in the second leg and Achraf Hakimi added another in the second half to put the Paris side three up in the tie, before Bukayo Saka got one back for Arsenal.
PSG midfielder Joao Neves also agreed with his manager’s assessment: “Arsenal are a very strong team, lots of individual quality and as a team. But I think we were the better team.”
