Tino Livramento and Jarell Quansah have rejoined the England Under-21 squad as preparations intensify for Euro 2025 — but Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo has been left out.
Lee Carsley has announced a provisional 29-player list for a training camp at St George's Park, from which six players will be cut ahead of the June 11–28 tournament in Slovakia.
Newcastle defender Livramento earned his first senior England cap under Carsley during his temporary tenure last November. Both Livramento and Liverpool's Quansah were then included in Thomas Tuchel’s opening senior squad in March but have now returned to the Under-21 setup.
Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton retains his place in the youth ranks despite standout performances and FA Cup success with the Eagles.
Tuchel addressed Wharton’s situation during Friday’s senior squad announcement, particularly when discussing midfield options: "It's not Adam Wharton v Jordan Henderson.
"What Henderson brings in the moment to the group an under-21 player cannot bring - it's just impossible from the personality, the experience.
We made Adam train with us in the last camp and he was with the under-21s and he trained with us and was very, very good. At the moment there's a little injury problem, a concussion protocol going on from the FA Cup final."
Mainoo has not been selected by either Carsley or Tuchel this time, less than a year after starting England's Euro 2024 final loss to Spain. His most recent appearance for the Under-21s came in March 2024 prior to being promoted to the senior squad.
The squad also includes Taylor Harwood-Bellis, Charlie Cresswell, and Harvey Elliott — all part of the England U21 side that lifted the Euro 2023 title, the first time since 1984 the Young Lions had claimed the crown.
Joining them are Arsenal's Ethan Nwaneri, Elliot Anderson of Nottingham Forest, and Liam Delap of Ipswich, who notched 12 Premier League goals this term despite the club’s relegation.
Notably absent are Borussia Dortmund winger Jamie Gittens and Manchester City’s James McAtee, although adjustments to the final lineup are still possible before the roster is finalised.
Everton's Jarrad Branthwaite, another Euro 2023 winner, is ruled out due to a hamstring issue.
England kick off their Group B campaign against the Czech Republic on Thursday, June 12, followed by matches against Slovenia on June 15 and Germany on June 18.
