Mainz 05

Mainz are sitting in sixth place in the Bundesliga table after winning nine, drawing four and losing seven of their 20 league matches this season. Die Nullfünfer were unable to add to their 31-point tally in last Friday’s away clash against Werder Bremen, as they fell to a narrow 1-0 defeat following Leonardo Bittencourt’s 14th-minute effort.

After suffering a third consecutive away defeat, Mainz will look forward to returning to the Mewa Arena, where they have won each of their last five matches. Mainz’s impressive home run includes wins over Borussia Dortmund, Bayern Munich and a 2-0 victory against Stuttgart in their most recent outing on home turf. They now have the chance to set a new club record by claiming six consecutive Bundesliga home wins for the first time in their history.

The hosts can take confidence from the fact they have won four of their last five home games against Augsburg, including a 3-2 victory in September’s reverse fixture. In fact, Mainz have won each of their previous three home matches against the Fuggerstädter.

Team News

Stefan Bell is ruled out with a hamstring injury, while Anthony Caci is set to serve a one-match suspension for an accumulation of yellow cards.

Augsburg

Augsburg have put together a fine run of form in the Bundesliga, having won three and drawn one of their last four league matches since losing to Augsburg in January. The Fuggerstädter recorded three consecutive Bundesliga victories against Union Berlin, Werder Bremen and Heidenheim, before they salvaged a 1-1 draw in last Saturday’s away clash with St. Pauli. Augsburg appeared to be heading towards defeat until Mert Kömür netted an 83rd-minute equaliser to snatch a point.

The 12th-placed side may bet sitting in the bottom half of the table, but they boast a comfortable 12-point cushion to the drop zone, while only being five points adrift of the top six ahead of the weekend’s round of fixtures. Augsburg have won two of their last three away league games after going 11 top-flight away matches without a victory. However, their hopes of taking three points from Saturday’s fixture may be tempered by the fact they have lost each of their last three away games against Mainz.

Team News

The visitors are unable to call upon Reece Oxford, Mërgim Berisha, Robert Gumny and Yusuf Kabadayi. Meanwhile, Dimitrios Giannoulis is suspended due to an accumulation of yellow cards.
