Manchester United lost 1-3 to Brighton & Hove Albion at Old Trafford in the Premier League on Sunday.

The Red Devils found themselves trailing early when Kaoru Mitoma delivered a perfectly timed pass to Yankuba Minteh, who made no mistake with a clinical tap-in.

United captain Bruno Fernandes brought his side level from the penalty spot.

Mitoma restored Brighton’s lead at the hour mark with a brave finish.

Andre Onana gifted Georgino Rutter with a dream opportunity to take his side 3-1 up.

Let’s get into player ratings.

Player Ratings

Andre Onana – 1/10

Terrible goalkeeping display from the Cameroon international as he made another big howler.

He fumbled a simple grounded cross and destroyed any chance for United to make a comeback.

Matthijs de Ligt – 5/10

De Ligt was caught on his heels with a long ball for Brighton’s opener but made a good block late in the first half.

Harry Maguire – 5/10

The England international struggled to offer the same assurance and leadership at the back that he had consistently shown in recent weeks.

Leny Yoro – 4/10

Yoro was clearly not very comfortable in the left centre-back spot.

The Red Devils lacked the incisive passing that Lisandro Martinez usually provides from the back.

Noussair Mazraoui – 3/10

It was one of his weakest performances since arriving in the summer.

He struggled to contain Mitoma, leaving United to miss the defensive presence of Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

Diogo Dalot – 3/10

Dalot displayed shocking defending when he allowed Minteh to earn an assist for Mitoma’s strike.

Kobbie Mainoo – 5/10

Mainoo raised his levels after a horrid outing against Southampton but still lost the ball eight times in his 64-minute display.

Manuel Ugarte – 5/10

Ugarte lacked intensity and looked like someone who needs a rest to get back to his best.

Amad Diallo – 6/10

Diallo displayed excellent anticipation and relentless intensity, winning the ball back in a crucial moment that led to United’s penalty decision.

He tried hard to stage another comeback for his side but failed in his pursuit.

Bruno Fernandes – 5/10

Like always, Fernandes stepped up and scored from the penalty spot.

Similar to Diallo, Fernandes was not at his usual best today.

Joshua Zirkzee – 6/10

The Dutch international won the penalty and impressed with his smart link-up play.

His performances have been notably better than Rasmus Hojlund’s in recent games, but they still fall short of the level that United desire.

Substitutions

Alejandro Garnacho – 4/10

The youngster found it too hard to get better of Brighton’s robust defence.

Toby Collyer – 5/10

An awkward back pass from the midfielder nearly deepened United’s woes.

Rasmus Hojlund – NA

Too late to rate.

Antony – NA

Antony probably made his last appearance for the Red Devils. Too late to rate.
