Manchester United defeated FCSB by 0-2 to seal their progression in the next round of the UEFA Europa league.
Manager Ruben Amorim made a big tactical change, starting Bruno Fernandes in the midfield and Kobbie Mainoo in the left number 10 position.
After a dull first-half, the game came to life after attacking substitutions from Amorim.
Diogo Dalot broke the deadlock and Mainoo doubled United’s lead.
The visitors could have added a few more goals to their tally but were not clinical in the final third.
With this victory, they remain as the only unbeaten side in the Europa League group stage.
Let’s get into player ratings.
Altay Bayindir – 7/10
Bayindir made a fine but expected save to deny Baluta late in the game.
Noussair Mazraoui – 7/10
Mazraoui impressed with his positioning and crisp ball distribution.
Matthijs de Ligt – 7/10
A solid evening for the Dutch international against timid FCSB’s attack.
Lisandro Martinez – 8/10
Martinez orchestrated play from deep, slicing through opposition lines with his precise line-breaking passes.
Diogo Dalot – 7/10
Dalot played first half in the right wing-back spot but hardly provided any attacking threat. He showed good anticipation to put United ahead.
Tyrell Malacia – 3/10
Malacia made a poor tackle to pick up an early booking. His awful back pass could have proved fatal for United.
Toby Collyer – 6/10
The midfield unfortunately came off at half-time with a possible injury.
Bruno Fernandes – 8/10
Fernandes hit the woodwork and should have scored United’s third goal after receiving a neat backheel pass from Garnacho.
He displayed his vision after Garnacho came on to make excellent attacking runs.
While Amorim focussed on rotation, he could not afford to rest Fernandes which speaks volumes about his importance.
Kobbie Mainoo – 9/10
Mainoo made a strong run behind the FCSB defence but couldn’t find a clean connection with his shot.
He wasted a glorious opportunity in the first half but redeemed himself with a good finish to confirm United’s progression to Round of 16.
He also earned an assist for Dalot’s strike, with journalist Samuel Luckhurst describing him as ‘excellent‘.
Christian Eriksen – 6/10
The veteran grew into the game after half-time, controlling from midfield with United dominating ball possesion.
Rasmus Hojlund – 5/10
Hojlund’s only notable contribution came with a smart pullback pass for Mainoo in the first half.
His current goal drought will raise concerns for Amorim.
Amad Diallo – 6/10
He added more freshness in the right wing-back spot.
Alejandro Garnacho – 9/10
Garnacho’s introduction proved to be game-changing.
He struck the woodwork and delivered dangerous passes into the box, capping his performance with a well-deserved assist for Mainoo’s goal.
Leny Yoro – 6/10
He added crucial minutes under his belt after replacing Martinez.
Casemiro – 6/10
The former Real Madrid earned a rare outing under Amorim.
Joshua Zirkzee – NA
Too late to rate.
