Denmark have qualified for the European U21 Championship, which will be held in Slovakia this summer. They have been placed in Group D alongside Ukraine, Finland and the Netherlands.

Described as ‘clever’ by United manager Ruben Amorim, Obi has already featured for Denmark’s U16s, U17s and U18s, scoring 14 goals in 23 appearances.

He is not the only United star who will play for Denmark during the international break. Rasmus Hojlund, Patrick Dorgu and Christian Eriksen have also been called up to the senior squad.

The trio will be in contention for the Nations League quarter-final clash with Portugal.

Obi could still play for England

Obi is eligible to play for England, having moved to the country from Denmark at a young age with his Nigerian parents.

He played for England U16s in 2023 as a substitute in the friendly games against Cyprus and Scotland. Obi switched his allegiance to Denmark later that year.

The youngster has yet to receive a call-up to their senior squad, making him eligible to play for the Three Lions.

England could attempt to convince the young striker to switch back to them if he continues his upward trajectory at United.
