Manchester United and Chelsea are both reportedly keeping an eye on Borussia Dortmund goalkeeper Gregor Kobel.

The Red Devils splashed £50 million to secure the services of Andre Onana in the summer of 2023. But while the directors were confident they had signed one of the finest shot-stoppers on the planet, the Cameroonian has been leaving the club’s supporters both baffled and furious with his bizarre blunders.

The 28-year-old might have a knack for producing jaw-dropping reaction saves, but this isn’t enough to cancel out his recurring howlers.

Therefore, finding a new goalkeeper has been a popular demand at Old Trafford. Although Altay Bayindir put on a few admirable displays as of late – including a heroic outing against Arsenal in the FA Cup – they remain too few to cement him a permanent starting role in Ruben Amorim’s plans.

So according to Fichajes.net, Man Utd are currently monitoring Dortmund’s Kobel with great interest, as they could launch an onslaught to sign him next summer.

The Switzerland international has been playing his football in Germany since making the switch from GC Zurich to Hoffenheim in 2014. He then went on to represent the likes of Augsburg and Stuttgart before signing for BVB in 2021. He now has 150 Bundesliga appearances under his belt.

The 27-year-old is proving himself to be a reliable presence between the spots for the German giants who have him under contract until June 2028. Hence, the Swiss custodian won’t come cheap, as the source expects him to command a transfer fee in the region of €60 million.

Moreover, the report also names Chelsea as another Premier League giant interested in Kobel. The Blues have also been unsatisfied with their current Number One Robert Sanchez, and are considering the Dortmund star as an upgrade for next season.
