Man United have received delightful news from the training ground as two regular starters have returned to the training ground.

Manchester United insider Sully revealed on his X account that Kobbie Mainoo and Harry Maguire have both resumed grass training.

While this doesn’t necessarily mean that the duo will be back in action immediately, it is considered a significant step on their recovery path.

“Understand both Mainoo and Maguire have returned back to grass training this morning,” posted the journalist.

“Both have done well in their rehab work in recent weeks and fitness levels have improved. Doesn’t necessarily mean they are available but a HUGE boost.”

Sully also predicted that big defender will make his return to action earlier than the teenager. He also added that fellow injured Man Utd star Leny Yoro is also ‘making good recovery’.

Mainoo and Maguire are both regulars in the English national team, but they were omitted from Thomas Tuchel’s first squad due to their injuries.

The 19-year-old midfielder has been out with a muscle issue since mid-February when a major injury crisis pared Amorim’s squad down to the bone ahead of the Premier League clash against fellow strugglers Tottenham Hotspur.

Prior to his injury, the teenager was still trying to find himself in the Portuguese manager’s system. The 40-year-old coach had fielded him in several positions in addition to his natural central midfielder role, particularly as an attacking midfielder and even as a False 9. These experiments yielded mixed results.

As for Maguire, he has been a stalwart at the back for Amorim since his arrival in November. However, a calf problem ruled him out of the two Europa League contests against Real Sociedad as well as the Premier League fixtures against Arsenal and Leicester.

The Sheffield native will be expected to retain his starting spot at the heart of the backline upon his return.
