Paris Saint-Germain initially took a short-term approach by sending Xavi Simons back to RB Leipzig on loan for another season. But things became more definitive earlier this year—Leipzig secured him on a permanent deal.

As part of the agreement, PSG added a sell-on clause, giving them a chance to make a bit more on the back end of the transfer.

According to CaughtOffside, Manchester United may be leading the race to sign Simons next summer, edging ahead of Manchester City.

Fabrizio Romano confirmed the transfer is now official: Simons has permanently joined Leipzig from PSG. The total package is worth €80 million, including add-ons, with an initial fee of €55 million and that sell-on clause baked into the deal.

Romano also noted that Simons’ contract runs through June 2027—but that doesn’t necessarily mean he’ll stay that long. Several top clubs are already keeping tabs on him ahead of a potential summer move.

Leipzig reportedly have a summer agreement with Simons, allowing him to leave, and the club is now prepared to cash in.

According to Bild, Leipzig need to sell players to raise funds and are aiming to bring in around €100 million (£85m/$114m) — a target they’re confident of surpassing by offloading both Simons and 21-year-old Benjamin Sesko.

There’s also a feeling within the club that Simons’ €12 million (£10m/$14m) salary doesn’t match his inconsistent performances.

Manchester United have been heavily linked with Simons lately, but according to insider Duncan Castles, Liverpool might now be in the running to sign him too.

“I’m also told that Liverpool have asked questions about the player, and again, you look at the style of his play, and you could see why he would be a fit to the way Liverpool play,” Castles said on the Transfers Podcast.

“So top-level clubs, at least in terms of budget – I don’t think we can call Manchester United a top-level club in terms of performance anymore – and again, summer after summer, Simons is the focus.

“But I think everything is set up for a sale this summer, if they can convince one of those clubs to come in and spend the money that Leipzig want for him.”
