Manchester City are into the quarter-finals of this season’s Adobe Women’s FA Cup after recording a 3-1 victory over Leicester City in a fifth round tie at The Joie Stadium this afternoon.

Leila Ouahabi, Kerolin and Khadija Shaw were on target for The Cityzens as they safely secured their passage into the last-eight.

Manchester City started the match brightly and Jess Park had an early attempt at goal but the ball was easily blocked by visiting keeper Olivia Clark.

The Cityzens broke the deadlock after 18 minutes. A scramble in the box saw efforts from Mary Fowler, Kerolin and Jill Roord blocked before the ball fell to Ouahabi who sent a right-footed shot into the bottom left corner of the net.

January transfer window signing Kerolin then scored her first Manchester City goal to make it 2-0. The Brazilian international received the ball from Jess Park and looped her effort into the Leicester City goal.

Leicester City struggled to severely test home keeper Ayaka Yamashita. Shana Chossenotte did send one effort at goal but the Japanese international keeper was able to claim the ball.

Aoba Fujino then created the perfect chance to put the hosts further ahead, but her effort was kept out by the diving feet of Clark.

After missing Thursday night’s Subway Women’s League Cup win at Arsenal, Manchester City forward Shaw made her return to the pitch in the second half. She soon made an impact by scoring The Cityzens’ third goal. The forward sent a trademark close-range header into the net.

Lily Murphy went close to making it four before Leicester City managed to get a goal back. Nelly Las collected the ball from former Manchester City player Ruby Mace and she fired her shot into the far corner of the net as the contest ended 3-1.

Manchester City will learn of their Adobe Women’s FA Cup quarter-final opponents when the draw is conducted at 6.30pm on Tuesday evening.
