Manchester City are in the running to win a cash prize of $125 million (£96.56 million) should they go on and win the 2025 Club World Cup, FIFA have confirmed.

Pep Guardiola’s men will travel to the United States to compete in the newfound 32-participant competition in June and July as an additional pre-season competition ahead of the 2025-26 campaign.

City have endured a difficult campaign domestically and in Europe and sitting in fifth place with nine games to go, they remain in a tightly-contested tussle to finish in the Premier League top-four.

Qualification for next season’s UEFA Champions League is of utmost importance for City – not as much for footballing and revenue reasons – but to attract the level of talent the club are pursuing as part of their upcoming squad rebuild.

Abdukodir Khusanov, Omar Marmoush, Vitor Reis and Nico Gonzalez were signed for a combined £181.5 million in January to inject fresh blood into a depleted, injury-riddled squad that will see significant upheaval at the end of the season.

Several first-team players have been linked with exits in the summer, including Kevin De Bruyne, Jack Grealish, Ederson and Bernardo Silva – all of whom could leave the club in a crossroads transfer window that will witness the arrival of newly-appointed sporting director Hugo Viana.

City are believed to be eyeing moves for Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz, Atalanta’s Ederson Silva and Juventus’ Andrea Cambiaso – with Viana set to back Guardiola heavily in the transfer market after an underwhelming campaign on the pitch for the Blues.

FIFA have this week confirmed the winners of the 2025 Club World Cup will take home $125 million (£96.56 million) in prize money, as reported by Ben Jacobs writing for Give Me Sport.

City will receive a minimum participation fee of $40 million (£30.9 million) as part of a $525 million (£405.6 million) pool that will recognise and incentivise what each clubs brings to the tournament.

The Club World Cup will be held between 14 June and 13 July and the Premier League confirmed this week that Manchester City and Chelsea will be allowed to sign and register players before the tournament begins in mid-June.
