Serie A side Como and Manchester City are close to finalising a big-money agreement for Argentine midfielder, Maximo Perrone.

The development concerning the 22-year-old’s future comes just weeks after the Buenos Aires-born talent openly admitted a desire to remain at the Italian club for the foreseeable future, with his temporary stay coming to an end.

Speaking during an interview with Italian media in mid-February, Perrone admitted, “I want to stay here, grow, learn more with Como.

“I want to give a hand to my teammates and I’m happy to stay with Cesc [Fabregas]. I have an excellent relationship with him. I hope my future is here with Como.”

The move over to Italy was Maximo Perrone’s second loan exit from the Etihad Stadium since arriving at the club from Velez Sarsfield in January 2023, penning a five-and-a-half-year contract with Manchester City following an initial £8 million move.

However, having starred at Como throughout the course of the season, it will come as no surprise to anyone to see the club work tirelessly to ensure the player’s future is with them, amid reported monitoring from the likes of Inter Milan.

Now, according to the information of the Manchester Evening News’ Simon Bajkowski, Como have been happy enough with Perrone’s contributions for the club whilst on loan this season to sanction a big-money permanent move for the player.

It is revealed that the Italians are now closing in on a £25 million/€30 million agreement with Manchester City, that will result in a staggering £17 million profit for the Etihad Stadium side on a player who made one competitive appearance for the club.

Developments concerning the future of the Perrone are ongoing while Manchester City simultaneously continue their own pursuit of a number of central midfield targets as part of a planned overhaul to be conducted this summer.

There is a widespread understanding that Florian Wirtz is the club’s number one target to replace Kevin De Bruyne, with Bayer Leverkusen having given the player and his family the green light to speak with Etihad officials.

Elsewhere and Manchester City are also venturing into the Italian game where they hold interest in AC Milan’s impressive and versatile star Tijjani Rejnders, who is expected to command a fee north of £50 million.
