Manchester City are preparing for a summer rebuild and have set their sights on AC Milan star Tijjani Reijnders.
According to Sky Sport Switzerland, the Netherlands midfielder is seen as the ideal replacement for Ilkay Gundogan.
City have had an underwhelming season by their usual high standards and manager Pep Guardiola is eager to revamp his squad this summer.
Reijnders and Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz are potetnial targets. Wirtz is being considered to replace Kevin De Bruyne, who has announced his departure from the club.
Reijnders is considered the ideal fit to fill Gundogan’s role. The 26-year-old is one of Milan’s most consistent performers and a key player for the Dutch national team.
The Zwolle-born midfielder has bagged ten goals and four assists in Serie A this season. He has earned 22 caps for the Netherlands, scoring four goals for his country.
He recently signed a new deal with Milan but is still open to taking the next step in his career.
Reports say he is happy in Milan but sees City as a major step forward. He believes he could reach another level under Guardiola, one of the best managers in football.
Milan reportedly value the Dutchman at around €65 million, and City are willing to pay the fee to secure his services.
Reijnders is a versatile midfielder who can play several roles. He can operate centrally or help in a more defensive role when needed.
He also adds goals and creativity from midfield, which City have lacked at times this season.
Milan are ninth in Serie A, eight points behind the top four. With their Champions League hopes fading, Reijnders may be tempted to leave this summer.
