Omar Marmoush has received his first individual accolade as a Premier League footballer, claiming the Goal of the Season prize for the 2024/25 campaign.
The Egypt international joined Pep Guardiola’s side at the halfway stage of the most-recent season, as Manchester City officials looked to get the club and its season back on track following a disastrous string of results throughout the winter.
Having exited the Premier League title race and crashed out of the Champions League before the last-16 stage for the first time since 2012, City found themselves in pursuit of a top-five finish in the top-flight to secure a place in Europe’s top competition for the following season.
And with injury and fitness problems hampering Pep Guardiola’s options throughout the squad, it was deemed necessary to begin the rebuild of the team early as four players came in at an investment of around £175 million in January.
Among those to be brought straight into Manchester City’s line-up was Omar Marmoush, adding much-needed goal threat and scoring eight goals for the club across competitions before the season concluded in late May.
Now, as announced by the Premier League on Saturday morning, Marmoush’s long-range strike against Bournemouth in the final home game of the campaign for Manchester City has won the Goal of the Season prize for 2024/25.
The Cairo-born forward’s goal against Bournemouth set Manchester City on their way to an eventual 3-1 win on the night, and put them within just one point of a UEFA Champions League place in the Premier League.
Bernardo Silva and Nico Gonzalez would also add their names onto the scoresheet against Bournemouth with Daniel Jebbison providing a late consolation, on a night when the stadium was filled with emotion for Kevin De Bruyne’s final-ever home appearance at the club.
The 2025/26 campaign is only likely to see more and more excellence from Omar Marmoush, as Manchester City recruitment chiefs aim to bring in further quality to strengthen the side overall, with Rayan Cherki among the attack-minded transfer targets being worked upon.
