The Cityzens are one of the favourites to win this season’s competition. They start their Adobe Women’s FA Cup campaign with a fixture against an Ipswich Town side that are unbeaten in the FA Women’s National League Southern Premier Division this season.
When speaking to the media in the pre-match press conference, Manchester City head coach Gareth Taylor said that his side will give The Tractor Girls full respect.
“They’re the top team in the third tier,” Taylor said. “We’ve watched numerous games and we saw them play the game against Bournemouth which was fairly tight in terms of the 1-0 scoreline.
“We won’t underestimate any team that we play. The FA Cup is a magical competition, we’ve been fortunate enough to win it and anyone who has done that will really cherish those moments. We’ve also lost in a final as well which is never nice.
“The FA Cup, even in this period of change, has retained its magic and I hope it continues to do that because it’s the one competition that I always remember growing up. It always used to be like the biggest game of the season, it was the only one that was televised. It’s such a magical competition and one that we always look forward to.”
Manchester City and Ipswich Town last met in the Adobe Women’s FA Cup back in 2020 with The Cityzens running out 10-0 winners at The Joie Stadium. Taylor said that it is difficult to determine if the gap in quality has increased in the last five years but again emphasised the importance of respecting the opposition.
He said “It’s hard to say. Levels are improving all of the time and you have to say that they’ve been impressive in their season so far. They’re unbeaten and that’s never easy in any league that you play in.
“We will give them the same respect as we give every opposition but we always focus on us and what we can do. We are pleased that the game is at The Joie Stadium and we are really looking forward to that. After a period of being abroad, it’s nice to have this home fixture because Ipswich away would have been difficult to allow us to go to Abu Dhabi [to train].”
