Manchester United could be willing to part ways with Casemiro for a cut-price fee, as per reports.
United were understood to be prepared to listen to offers for the Brazilian during the summer transfer window on the back of a frustrating 2023/24 campaign.
Despite suggestions of a move to the Saudi Pro League, the veteran midfielder remained at Old Trafford.
Apart from his shaky performance against Liverpool in September, Casemiro did relatively well under Erik ten Hag. His display under interim boss Ruud van Nistelrooy was even more promising.
Regardless, he is not expected to be a key part of Ruben Amorim’s project.
According to CaughtOffside, Casemiro is likely to have a lesser role under Amorim, who is expected to give more opportunities to his former Sporting Lisbon midfielder Manuel Ugarte.
The Uruguayan struggled to get regular game time under Ten Hag after joining the club from Paris Saint-Germain in the summer. But since the Dutchman’s sacking, he has impressed with his work out of possession in the middle of the park.
Further, Kobbie Mainoo is also viewed as an exciting option who will be “key to build around.”
This midfield partnership in Amorim’s 3-4-3 formation should keep both Casemiro and Eriksen away from the starting lineup.
While Eriksen, who is in the final year of his contract, is more likely to leave next summer as a free agent, Casemiro could reportedly be “made available for a price tag in the region of £30m this January.”
United paid a fee in the region of £60m to sign the 32-year-old from Real Madrid. Still, considering his high wages, his exit, even for a fee of £30m would be good for the Premier League giants.
The same report adds that the Mancunians want to strengthen Amorim’s squad in January by bringing in a new left-back, having set their sights on Álvaro Carreras and Ben Chilwell.
