The Premier League champions were originally charged and referred to an independent commission back in February 2023 following a four-year investigation, with it being alleged that City had breached league financial rules between 2009 and 2018.

From the side of Manchester City, and in a stance maintained since they were first charged, they strongly deny all charges and have also said that their own case is supported by a “comprehensive body of irrefutable evidence”.

The Premier League further claimed at the time that City had breached rules requiring the club to provide “accurate financial information that gives a true and fair view of the club’s financial position”, also accusing the club of not co-operating.

And one figure that was suggested to be involved in some way regarding potential wrongdoings was Omar Berrada, who left Manchester City in the summer to take on the role of CEO at Manchester United.

But according to the information of MailSport’s Chris Wheeler, Manchester United are confident that neither their new chief executive or any other staff recruited from Manchester City will be implicated in the 115 financial charges.

Manchester City’s Director of Football Transactions, Carlos Raphael Moersen stepped up to help Txiki Begiristain with the club’s transfer negotiations following the departure of Omar Berrada to Old Trafford as the Etihad club maintain an aim of promoting in-house.

Berrada is not the only person with previous at Manchester City to have made the move to Manchester United in recent weeks, with the Old Trafford club also turning towards a former key figure of the City Football Academy operation.

Having resigned from his role at Southampton during the closing stages of last season, Manchester City’s former Academy Director, Jason Wilcox became Manchester United’s new technical director.
