Manchester United are interested in Nayef Aguerd, who is enjoying a promising season at Real Sociedad.

United’s defence is expected to undergo a major overhaul in the summer. Ruben Amorim’s arrival has intensified the need for quality centre-backs as the Portuguese tactician uses a back three formation.

However, both Jonny Evans and Victor Lindelof are nearing the end of their respective contracts and are likely to depart Old Trafford in the summer as free agents. Recently, The Peoples Person relayed a report claiming Lindelof is looking to leave United and return to Benfica.

Meanwhile, there are fears that Lisandro Martinez could be sidelined for the rest of the year with a knee injury.

As such, the Red Devils may find themselves in the transfer market for a new central defender in the summer. In that regard, a report in Spain has thrown a surprise name in the mix.

Manchester United want West Ham defender Nayef Aguerd

According to Fichajes, United have set their sights on Sociedad key man Aguerd.

The Moroccan star moved to San Sebastian from West Ham United last summer in a season-long loan deal.

The 28-year-old struggled to find his footing in the Premier League after joining the Hammers from Rennes in 2022 and eventually became a liability in East London.

However, he is thriving under Imanol Alguacil, having made 19 LaLiga appearances this term. The defender has earned plaudits for his aerial dominance and tendency to bring the ball out from the back.

It is claimed that Sociedad are “seriously considering signing” him permanently but United’s interest could complicate their plans.

United reportedly believe Aguerd would “fit perfectly into their system.”

The Spanish outlet suggest that if the Mancunians decide to go all out for the West Ham flop, Sociedad will find it hard to retain his signature.
