Manchester United are keenly monitoring the situation of Dani Olmo who could be available on a free transfer in January, as per reports.
Olmo made plenty of headlines during the summer, as he played an instrumental role in Spain’s Euro 2024 win. He was one of the best players in the competition, having scored three goals and registered two assists in just six appearances.
The Spanish playmaker carried his form into this season after joining Barcelona from RB Leipzig in a deal believed to be worth £50 million.
Olmo’s return to his boyhood club was far from smooth as Barca could reportedly only register him on a temporary arrangement until the end of the calendar year, owing to La Liga’s financial constraints and the club’s precarious situation.
That did not have any impact on the 26-year-old’s performances. He has six goals and an assist to his name in 15 appearances across all competitions.
Capable of playing out wide and as an attacking midfielder through the middle, Olmo has impressed with his movement and ability to link up with his teammates in the final third under Hansi Flick.
However, according to the Daily Mail, his future at Camp Nou is uncertain heading into the winter transfer window, as Barcelona continue to struggle to “register the dynamic Spain international with LaLiga ahead of the January 1 deadline.”
The outlet claims that Olmo’s agent Andy Bara arrived in Manchester today as Premier League clubs look to take advantage of the situation. As things stand, the Catalan giants are blocked from registering their star player.
He will be allowed to leave the club as a free agent if “Spain’s football federation continue to block his registration for the second part of the season as they push for the Catalan giants to make more cuts, find more revenue and comply with their financial guidelines.”
The Blaugrana’s battle to register their player has “alerted” Premier League clubs, including United, Manchester City and Arsenal.
It is added that Olmo’s priority is to continue in Barcelona but his situation has forced his agent to start exploring potential moves.
The Spaniard is one of the best wide creators in Europe and would certainly do well in Ruben Amorim’s 3-4-3, just behind the striker.
Interestingly, the La Liga outfit have been linked with Marcus Rashford, who appears to have fallen out of favour under the new gaffer.
