Manchester United appear to be on course to sign Bournemouth full-back Milos Kerkez this summer.
With Man United in desperate need of a left-back, the club has been linked with an array of potential candidates, with Kerkez emerging across media reports.
In late December, Fabrizio Romano reported that United would face competition from Liverpool for the 21 year old, although United’s interest appeared more concrete.
Later, Kerkez signed with a new agent, thereby adding to the transfer speculation.
While it appears as if a January move for Kerkez is unlikely, Florian Plettenberg of Sky Sports Germany has reported that United still appear to be set to sign the youngster to their ranks.
“Understand that Milos #Kerkez will remain at Bournemouth during this winter transfer window, despite interest from Manchester United and other clubs,” Plettenberg posted on X.
“That is the clear trend. A transfer in the summer is likely. #MUFC”
“The 21-y/o left-back is under contract until 2028.”
This update shuts down previous talks of Liverpool beating United in the race to sign Kerkez.
Averaging 1.4 tackles, 1.1 interceptions, 2.5 clearance and 4.4 ball recoveries per game, the Hungarian international has proven to be a workhorse for Bournemouth this season. He has also shown his attacking prowess with two goals and three assists in 22 Premier League matches. (Sofascore)
Most notably, Kerkez has been a core component in Bournemouth’s rigid defence this season. The team has conceded just 26 goals this season, the fourth fewest in the league. What’s more, the team is just three points short of a UEFA Champions League qualifying spot.
With a January move seemingly out of a question, United will do well to keep tabs on the Bournemouth defender, who would no doubt be a defensive asset in the future given his impressive form and proven Premier League expertise.
