Manchester United have submitted an offer of €30m (£25.3m) for Lecce left-back Patrick Dorgu.
United have made the 20-year-old their top target for the January transfer window as the club look to bring in an option suited to Ruben Amorim’s system. Injury issues for Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia have left United short of a natural left-sided option at wing-back.
Dorgu has impressed since signing for Lecce from FC Nordsjælland and made his Denmark debut in September. He scored with his first touch against Switzerland, 42 seconds after his introduction.
The 6ft 2in defender plays primarily at left-back but has also featured on the opposite flank and further forward. His versatility and athleticism have caught the attention of Europe’s top clubs with Chelsea and Spurs having tracked his progress.
Manchester United now want to make Dorgu the first signing of the Ruben Amorim era. The Athletic have revealed that director of negotiations Matt Hargreaves met with Lecce sporting director Pantaleo Corvino in Milan this week to discuss terms. Though Lecce value the player at €40m, there is optimism a deal can be struck.
