Manchester United are out of the FA Cup after losing at home to Fulham on Sunday. Victor Lindelof and Joshua Zirkzee both saw penalties saved by Bernd Leno in a dramatic shootout that followed a tense 1-1 draw over 120 minutes at Old Trafford as the holders fell at the fifth round stage to pile more misery on Ruben Amorim.
It was the first time that Fulham have beaten United in the FA Cup since all the way back in 1908, and a second win for the Cottagers at Old Trafford in the space of just 12 months having previously not won at the ground since 1962 - perfect revenge for their controversial quarter-final loss there two years ago as they set up a home London derby meeting with Crystal Palace in the last eight this time.
Fulham led on the stroke of half-time to liven up an otherwise turgid game, Calvin Bassey heading in after Rodrigo Muniz had flicked on Andreas Pereira’s corner. Fulham looked to be heading through until captain Bruno Fernandes drilled in an excellent equaliser for United to force extra time, with both sides having plenty of chances to prevent a shootout thereafter but Andre Onana twice denying Emile Smith Rowe and Chido Obi unable to beat Leno, who went on to become the shootout hero.
