Ruben Amorim has opted against significant rotation before Europa League final
Ruben Amorim has named a strong side as Manchester United face Chelsea in the Premier League tonight.
The Red Devils take on Tottenham in the Europa League final next Wednesday, and their Portuguese head coach has emphasised the need for all of his squad to be available if they are to cap off a terrible campaign with a trophy.
Before their semi-final second leg against Athletic Club, Amorim decided to field a second-string side in the 4-3 defeat by Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium.
Captain Bruno Fernandes - usually an ever-present in the United starting XI - was an unused substitute, while Noussair Mazraoui was left out of the matchday squad entirely.
That gave youngsters Tyler Fredricson, Harry Amass and Chido Obi a chance to impress, but none of the academy trio could stop the Red Devils falling to yet another Premier League defeat.
Amorim has gone for a different approach this time, with the likes of Fernandes, Harry Maguire, Amad Diallo and Casemiro all starting at Stamford Bridge.
Matthijs de Ligt and Leny Yoro are the injury worries in the central defensive trident, while Diogo Dalot has not featured since the 1-0 home defeat by Wolves with an ankle issue. All three are left out of the squad here.
Lisandro Martinez and Ayden Heaven are longer-term absentees, while Joshua Zirkzee will not feature again this season after he suffered a thigh problem last month.
Starting XI: Onana; Lindelof, Maguire, Shaw; Mazraoui, Casemiro, Fernandes, Dorgu; Diallo, Mount, Hojlund
Subs: Bayindir, Amass, Fredricson, Heaven, Collyer, Eriksen, Mainoo, Ugarte, Garnacho
Time and date: 8.15pm BST on Friday May 16, 2025
Venue: Stamford Bridge, London
