The Hoops are struggling to get results in front of their own fans so far this season

Queens Park Rangers are yet to fully hit their stride in the 24/25 Championship campaign, with the R’s struggling to put points on the board as we head into the international break.

Rangers have just seven points from their opening nine league matches of the season, with Marti Cifuentes failing to recreate the sort of form that saw the Hoops perform so well in the second-half of the previous campaign.

A combination of defensive fragility and misfiring strike force has seen the West London side shipping goals at an alarming rate so far, with their efforts in the final third failing to claw back deficits that they find themselves chasing.

Not only that, but a struggle to win in front of their own fans continues, with the club’s only win so far this season coming on the road against Luton Town, which is something Cifuentes needs to work on.

Although the poor form at Loftus Road is nothing new for Rangers fans, this season the performances in front of the lifeblood of the club has seemed to sink to new depths.

Last season, the club only managed seven wins on home turf with a further six draws, while the majority of their points came on the road, with eight successes coming away from the home comforts.

While that was nothing to write home about, it seems altogether dreamy compared to the results the season-ticket holding fan will have witnessed so far this season, with just four goals scored in as many games, and just two points picked up in the meantime.

Once again, Rangers have picked up more points on their travels during 24/25 to date, with five points compared to two at Loftus Road, while five goals outside of White City only backs that statistic up further compared to the four at home.

Queens Park Rangers’ home games so far

The signs were there from the opening day for Rangers, as West Bromwich Albion came to the capital and ran riot, with a Josh Maja hat trick earning the Baggies a 3-1 win, with the sight of the opposition celebrating in front of them a sign of things to come for R’s fans.

The next team to come calling were Plymouth Argyle, and despite the Pilgrims playing over an hour with ten men after Adam Forshaw’s dismissal, Cifuentes’ side could still only muster a draw.

That result against the Pilgrims largely summed up the issue with Rangers this season, with a whole host of creative players on the pitch, but a lack of obvious goalscoring opportunities created, even with a man advantage.

Another 1-1 draw with Millwall followed last month, Michael Frey’s equaliser just one of two shots on target throughout the whole 90 minutes against the Lions, with their lack of cutting edge exposed once again.

Hull City were the latest team to exploit the lack of confidence in front of the home support last week, as the Tigers - who have hardly set the world alight this season - comfortably went home with a 3-1 victory, with Nicolas Madsen converting from the spot just before the break for the hosts.

Only newly-promoted Portsmouth can match a record of no home wins so far this season, although even they have picked up three points at Fratton Park, compared to Rangers’ two.

With John Mousinho’s side the next to come to town after the international break, there will be plenty to play for as the two sides look to kickstart their respective seasons.
