MATCH REPORT | Martigues 1-1 Paris FC – Les Parisiens seal historic promotion to Ligue 1 | OneFootball

For the first time since the 1989-1990 season, two Paris-based sides will be featuring in France’s top tier. Recently acquired by one of the richest families in France in collaboration with Red Bull, Paris FC tonight secured promotion to Ligue 1 for the first time in their history. Whilst they drew to a combative Martigues in the south of France on Friday evening, Metz’s 3-3 draw with Rodez has meant Paris FC will join Paris Saint-Germain next season in the elite.

Martigues desperately needed the points in their quest for survival in the second division. After a balanced first quarter hour, the hosts did well to keep the side from the capital at bay, with FCM goalkeeper Yannick Benoît Etilé having to be on hand to save from Pierre-Yves Hamel’s strike early on before the Sang & Or went up the other end of the pitch and almost went ahead thanks to a diving header from Steve Solvet – Les Parisiens had Obed Nkambadio to thank for a fine save.

But Paris would take the lead early on in the second half, when Jean-Phillipe Krasso latched onto a through ball before colliding with the Martigues goalkeeper. After it was saved off the line from FCM defender Saintini, Pierre-Yves Hamel followed up with the rebound strike, much to the delight of the delegation of the PFC ownership and the away fans tucked into stands at Stade Francis Turcan. But it wasn’t doom and gloom forever for the Martigues faithful, as Orinel was played through on goal and curled a shot over the top of Nkabadio and into the back of the net. With Clermont winning against Annecy, Les Sang & Or needed to get another to keep their dreams of staying up in Ligue 2. Jean-Phillipe Krasso had a wonderful opportunity to put PFC ahead with his driving run into the box but dragged his shot wide. It was Illan Kebbal’s turn to edge ever closer, with a curled strike on the edge of the box rattling the post.A draw was enough on the pitch, but Paris FC’s players had to wait until Metz completed a thrilling draw with Rodez (3-3) to confirmed what many had foreseen for weeks now – a second Parisien club in the French elite.
