Milan president Paolo Scaroni acknowledged the progress about the possibility of building a new stadium in San Siro but added that some problems remained and that it wasn’t their main priority in an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport (via Adnkronos).

“I don’t think we have overcome all the issue the area presents. First of all, the costs of the stadium and its surroundings haven’t been defined yet. Secondly, the process to obtain the permits to build there is complex. The road ahead is long and difficult. We’ve reached an agreement with the Superintendence concerning part of the current arena, rubber-stamped by the Minister, which seemed impossible three months ago. It’d be a vestige of the past and host shops and other stuff.”

On the other hand, Scaroni stated that they would continue to work on their top San Siro fallback in San Donato.

“We haven’t abandoned it. Actually, it’s our number one option and our priority considering the time and money we put on it. The Mayor doesn’t need to worry.”

Milan have poured about €40M into buying the land and reclaiming it. On the other hand, there’s pressure to stay in the city rather than go play in a nearby small town. Recent events reignited the project to build a new stadium in lieu of the current one. Inter and the Rossoneri are expected to keep sharing the same arena, whether at San Siro or in another location. Erecting two would be too pricey.
