Milan pulled off an epic comeback to win their eighth Supercoppa Italiana title, beating arch-rivals Inter 3-2 in Riyadh. Despite lagging two goals behind after 47 minutes, Sergio Conceicao inspired the Rossoneri to their first trophy in two years.

Inter took the lead toward the end of the first half as Lautaro Martinez broke his scoring drought with a superb solo goal to put Simone Inzaghi’s team in front. Things went from bad to worse at the start of the second half when Mehdi Taremi doubled Inter’s lead with a clinical finish.

However, like in the 2-1 semifinal victory against Juventus, Milan didn’t lose hope. Rafael Leao’s introduction in the 50th minute was a game-changing moment. He immediately drew a dangerous free-kick, which Theo Hernandez converted to cut Inter’s advantage in half.

After a catalog of wasted opportunities, Milan found a well-deserved leveler through Christian Pulisic. The USMNT forward was the quickest inside Inter’s box, beating Yann Sommer with an unstoppable low effort to put things back to square one.

When it looked like the final would go to penalties, second-half substitute Tammy Abraham pounced on Leao’s cutback to inspire Milan to a remarkable 3-1 victory. Without further ado, let’s look at our player ratings.

Milan (4-3-3)

Mike Maignan – 7.5

The Milan captain proved why many consider him among Europe’s top-five goalkeepers, pulling off a fabulous diving save to deny Dimarco in the first half.

Emerson Royal – 5.5

His attempted diagonal balls and crosses were wayward, to say the least. However, his short passes were accurate, while he fared well defensively. Comical at times!

Fikayo Tomori – 6

Back to the starting line-up for the second consecutive game, the Englishman stood his ground against Taremi. However, lost sight of Taremi for the Inter second.

Malick Thiaw – 7.5

The ex-Schalke defender made a vital tackle to prevent Lautaro from finding an early goal. That proved the ultimate confidence booster, as he enjoyed a decent game overall.

Theo Hernandez – 8

In addition to doing his defensive job to a ‘T,’ the French left-back returned to be a player who used to tear opposition defenses apart until not long ago. What a free kick!

Youssouf Fofana – 7

He has become the focal point of the Milan midfield. Instrumental in breaking up Inter’s attacking plays, Fofana was outstanding at the back while keeping his passes clean and precise.

Tijjani Reijnders – 6.5

It’s a shame the final touch let him down after selling a clever dummy to Yann Bisseck to set himself one-on-one with Yann Sommer. He’s delightful to watch.

Yunus Musah – 6

Unlike most of his previous appearances for Milan, the USMNT midfielder demonstrated composure in possession, measuring his passes to perfection and retaining the ball under pressure.

Christian Pulisic – 7

His on-field understanding with Reijnders was the backbone of Milan’s first-half attempts to harm Inter. Wasted a glorious chance to draw Milan level, sending his feeble header straight into Sommer’s arms.

Alejandro Jimenez – 5

Replaced by Leao early in the second half after failing to impact the play from the right wing despite showing occasional flashes of his technical quality.

Alvaro Morata – 5.5

The Spaniard didn’t have a scoring chance tonight, but his commendable work ethic made him a thorn in Inter’s side, especially off the ball.

Substitutes

Rafael Leao – 8
