There is concern surrounding Aleksandr Golovin (28), who was withdrawn at half-time during AS Monaco’s 4-2 win over AJ Auxerre on Saturday.
Initially, Golovin’s substitution looked to have been a tactical choice from Adi Hütter. Monaco were 2-1 down at the time and the Principality club’s manager described the performance to that point as “one of the worst halves since [he] arrived in Monaco.”
However, in a press conference, attended by Get French Football News, Hütter revealed the true reason behind Golovin’s substitution. “He started to have pain in his ankle,” said Hütter regarding the Russia international. “You can see that he is limping. It made no sense to play him in the second half. For sure, he is not the same player when he has these pains.”
He added, “He has felt these pains for the past two months. We need a really good solution for Golo because I want to protect him too. When you have pain, it is difficult to play at this level.” Golovin’s ongoing injury issue had not been revealed prior to Saturday.
