In recent weeks, with multiple season targets thrown out the window, the fans have made themselves heard at San Siro. As explained by Riccardo Montolivo, playing through the jeering is really difficult.

Curva Sud, the Milan ultras, have made their stance very clear in the last few weeks. In addition to not showing up for the first 15 minutes of several games, they have continued to chant ‘Cardinale, you have to sell, go away’.

Speaking to Mediaset, as transcribed by MilanNews, the former Milan captain Montolivo was asked about the tense atmosphere. He made it clear that support is needed at all times to get the best out of the players.

“It’s tough, it’s really tough… From an emotional point of view, because you always want the stadium by your side, then it’s difficult to perform at a certain level, especially in difficulty, as soon as the jeers start a bit of discouragement also comes.

“Conceicao must be good at creating a group, at uniting in this moment of difficulty and reaching Europe all together. I don’t know what, but he has quality and he must try to get it out from here to the end,” he stated.

Milan are currently six points behind top four but since the protests have mainly been about the corporate struggles of the club, the tense atmosphere will most likely remain between now and the end of the season.
