According to a report by L’Équipe, Montpellier HSC are considering bringing in Jean-Louis Gasset as the new manager after the club president, Laurent Nicollin, fired Michel Der Zakarian yesterday evening following a 5-0 demolition at home to Olympique de Marseille.
Last night, Nicollin took the extraordinary step to announce live on air that he had sacked Der Zakarian. “We can’t change 25 players,” the president told DAZN France, “so unfortunately, I’ve taken the initiative to fire Michel tonight.” It was a decision that meant that Montpellier would get to work immediately on the pursuit of a new manager.
The club reportedly hope that they can convince Gasset to come out of retirement only a few months after he left the game. Gasset had a relatively successful time as the Marseille interim last season where he helped right the ship and guide the club to the Europa League semi-final but failed to secure European football.
L’Équipe writes that Montpellier could try and entice Gasset with not only a head coaching role but also a place in the club’s management, like with Fred Antonetti in SC Bastia.
