Former Roma boss Jose Mourinho did not mince words when confronted with the fact that Stuart Atwell will be refereeing the match between Fenerbahce and Twente.
During today’s press conference, the Special One was told that the match will be overseen from the VAR room by none other than Stuart Atwell, the same official in charge of VAR during the Europa League final in Budapest against Sevilla in 2022.
During the press conference, Mourinho commented, “I think it is a normal designation made by Rosetti. There is no problem for me and I believe in their honesty.”
Mourinho stressed that, in his opinion, Attwell and the referee that night were simply having a “bad day”, but their decisions had a significant impact on the outcome of the match and Roma’s aspirations for Champions League football.
“He made a decision that influenced the history of Roma,” said Mourinho, “He influenced the history of a coach and of the fans. I don’t forget that, but I believe in their honesty.”
