Napoli are ramping up efforts to sign Manchester United forward Alejandro Garnacho, but they’re now faced with a huge stumbling block.

The Red Devils have had a quiet transfer window thus far, although they’ve agreed a deal to sign versatile Leece defender Patrick Dorgu.

The Denmark international will be the first major signing of the Ruben Amorim era, but United are still in the market for reinforcements.

With Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee struggling to make a lasting impression, United are open to signing a striker.

Mathys Tel is an option, but financial constraints mean United need to raise funds through player sales, and Garnacho is one of several players on the chopping block.

The 20-year-old will represent pure profit for United if he completes a move away, but the club have yet to agree on transfer fees with Napoli.

With the sale of Khvicha Kvaratskhelia to Paris Saint-Germain shaking up their transfer plans, Napoli are making a final push to secure reinforcements before the window shuts.

Head coach Antonio Conte and sporting director Giovanni Manna are keen to sign a left-sided attacker, and Garnacho has emerged as a primary target.

Their initial plan to sign Karim Adeyemi from Borussia Dortmund has stalled, as the German forward has chosen to remain in the Bundesliga until June, despite an agreement between the two clubs.

That pushed Napoli to reignite their interest in Garnacho. Initially, United wanted €70 million, but negotiations have brought that figure down to €60m, including bonuses.

The price is within reach for Napoli, who are looking to wrap up business before the deadline.

However, Garnacho’s agent is reportedly driving a hard bargain. He wants a lucrative salary package for his client and a hefty commission for himself.

Napoli have offered a €4m net salary plus bonuses, but it remains to be seen if all parties can get the deal over the line before Monday’s deadline.
