Denzel Dumfries says that he’s happy to wear the captain’s armband for the first time in four years at Inter Milan against Feyenoord yesterday.
The Netherlands international spoke to InterTV, via FCInterNews, after yesterday’s Champions League round of sixteen clash.
Inter Milan wingback Denzel Dumfries wore the captain’s armband in yesterday evening’s Champions League match against Feyenoord.
Nerazzurri skipper Lautaro Martinez was on the bench for the match. As were other experienced players such as Nicolo Barella and Alessandro Bastoni.
Therefore, it fell to Dumfries to lead the Nerazzurri team as they looked to secure their place in the quarterfinals of the Champions League.
It was also a particularly special evening for the Dutchman. He was playing against a team from his home country of the Netherlands.
And Dumfries responded to the pressure. He put in another outstanding performance, just the latest in his string of strong displays in recent weeks.
Denzel Dumfries said that wearing the armband “is a wonderful feeling.”
“I’ve been here for four years,” the Dutchman noted. “And this was my first time wearing the armband.”

“I’m happy,” he added. “Let’s move forward.”
Meanwhile, Dumfries said that reaching the quarterfinals of the Champions League with yesterday’s win was “a great night for us.”
“It was important for us to reach the quarterfinals. We played with courage.”
The 28-year-old former PSV wingback declared that “I’m happy and proud of the team.”
“Now we have another tough match on the way against Atalanta,” added Dumfries. “It’s important for us, and we want to win.”
“A win would be important for our place in the league table. We want to go there to win.”
