Newcastle United are aiming to reach the quarter-finals of the FA Cup on Sunday afternoon when they host Brighton & Hove Albion.

The Magpies will be travelling to Wembley Stadium in several weeks to face Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final and are aiming to secure a second visit to the country's grandest stage this season. Two more FA Cup victories and that dream will become reality with a semi-final berth.

Eddie Howe is unlikely to make too many alterations from his first-string XI but he could be without talismanic sharpshooter Alexander Isak. The Magpies will need others to chip in with goals should the Swede miss out.

Here is how Newcastle could line up on Sunday.

GK: Martin Dubravka - Nick Pope has re-established himself in the starting XI over the past few matches but Dubravka could return between the sticks on Sunday. The England international didn't cover himself in glory at Anfield midweek.

RB: Kieran Trippier - Tino Livramento is undoubtedly first-choice these days but Trippier is a fine deputy. The experienced right-back could come into the team to offer his junior a well-earned rest.

CB: Fabian Schar - Schar has largely been a constant for Newcastle this season amid injuries to Sven Botman and Jamaal Lascelles. He will be tasked with keeping the likes of Danny Welbeck and Joao Pedro quiet.

CB: Dan Burn - Botman is nearing a return and Howe admitted he could be part of the squad on Sunday. However, the Dutchman is unlikely to be risked with the Carabao Cup final on the horizon.

LB: Lewis Hall - For Hall, a meeting with ex-Newcastle winger Yankuba Minteh is on the cards. The young defender will be made to work hard by the speedy Gambia international, who never actually turned out for the Magpies.

CM: Bruno Guimaraes - Howe could make alterations to his midfield unit but he would be taking an enormous risk by omitting Guimaraes. The Brazilian sets the tempo for Newcastle.

CM: Sandro Tonali - Tonali returned to the starting lineup against Liverpool after a minor knock and is another key contributor in Newcastle's midfield. The industrious Sean Longstaff is most likely to replace the Italian should he drop to the bench.

CM: Lewis Miley - The 18-year-old enjoyed an immense breakout season in 2023/24 but injuries have hindered his development this year. He's starting to find his feet again having enjoyed minutes in place of Joelinton.

RW: Anthony Gordon - There could be changes in Newcastle's forward line but Gordon may continue in the team. The winger may be pushed out to the right-hand side to offer Jacob Murphy rest.

ST: Callum Wilson - Isak was a significant absentee on Wednesday when Newcastle visited Liverpool and the Swede is unlikely to be rushed back into the team this weekend. Wilson will replace him again.

LW: Harvey Barnes - The clash with Brighton could prove the perfect opportunity for Barnes to earn some much-needed game time. He's started just six Premier League matches this term due to injuries and the supreme form of Newcastle's established front three.
