Norwich City have been linked with a move for Nottingham Forest youngster Adam Berry this summer.
According to Teamtalk, the Canaries are one of three Championship sides interested in the 19-year-old, with it being claimed that the Norfolk outfit have made an enquiry over his availability amid a contract stand-off with the Reds.
However, they face competition from rivals Stoke City and Blackburn Rovers, as well as Belgian side Westerlo.
The versatile academy player is capable of playing through the middle as a no.10, as well as out wide, but has yet to make his senior debut for the Premier League side after moving to their academy from Manchester United in 2023, having made nine appearances in the Premier League 2 this year so far.
When asked about potentially signing Berry, FLW’s Norwich fan pundit Zeke Downes expressed his scepticism over the deal.
He believes the club have enough young attacking talent for the time being, and that more experience will be needed, particularly if Berry is seen as a replacement for Borja Sainz.
“I personally haven’t heard of Adam Berry,” Downes told Football League World.
“But I guess he is a good age, and it’s a good club and he’s obviously not going to be given much of a chance there now because of [Anthony] Elanga, [Callum] Hudson-Odoi and [Morgan] Gibbs-White, so it doesn’t necessarily mean he’s not good enough.
“But we have recruited in those areas already with [Oscar] Schwartau, [Ante] Crnac, [Matej] Jurasek, [Amankwah] Forson even.
“I don’t know whether we’re going to need another young player like that.
“I would rather get an experienced-ish player in that’s had a good amount of time already, someone to probably directly replace Sainz.
“And I’d imagine that [Lewis] Dobbin’s on the radar, but with his injury I don’t know whether that will happen now.
“I would much rather have a player that’s sort of 24 to 28 and is ready to kick-on now, rather than having it like it is with all the other guys, waiting a year or more for them to hopefully work out, but then you never actually know if they will.”
Norwich are currently 11th in the Championship table following Tuesday night’s 0-0 draw at home to Sunderland.
Norwich have invested in younger attackers, so adding another option in Berry might not be what they need right now.
If a reasonable fee can be agreed with Forest, then it could still be a move worth pursuing, as it will spread the club’s bets on these youngsters and give them a greater chance at success.
But it would be an underwhelming move if he is the only player signed to replace Sainz, should he leave in the summer.
