Some rather surprising news has emerged two days before AC Milan’s scheduled trip to face Bologna and it concerns the potential postponement of the game.

It was reported this afternoon by La Gazzetta dello Sport that Bologna-Milan was ‘at high risk of postponement’ due to bad weather. The rumour had been circulating in recent days and today it has become a concrete possibility.

Inclement weather has hit the Emilia region in waves, and the forecasts that predict more heavy rainfall for most of tomorrow. This is inducing the relevant institutions to evaluate the postponement of the match at the Stadio Renato dall’Ara which is scheduled for Saturday 26 October at 18:00 CEST.

Of course there is not just the playing surface to consider, even if there is a strong chance of it being waterlogged. There is also public safety to consider, such as the areas surrounding the stadiums, how the stands inside will be and other things like traffic.

The statement from ANSA (via MilanNews) confirms that the game between Bologna and Milan will not be played due to bad weather. The mayor of Bologna – Matteo Lepore – made the decision after consulting the police chief and the prefect.

He has signed an ordinance ordering the match to be suspended. The decision was made due to rain forecasts and the priority of the restoration of the situation in the neighbourhood that hosts the stadium, which was the one most affected by the flooding on Saturday evening.
