There weren’t many standout players for Manchester City during their 2-nil win over Leicester City last night. It was more of a performance where every player did their job for Pep Guardiola’s side. Savinho did play well on the right wing during last night’s match. He grabbed an assist as set up Jack Grealish to score the opener in the second minute of last night’s match. But watching the game unfold you got the sense that once the Brazilian international improves his finishing and adds more composure to his play in the final third the world could be his oyster in a footballing sense.
Outside of his assist last night Savinho had his moments. He did see a shot saved by Mads Hermansen in the first half of last night’s match. But in the second half, one moment stood out for Savinho. He looked to be set free on the right-hand side after a sweeping City move late in the second half. But instead of taking the shot first time or having the clarity of thought about what he’d do next, Savinho stood on the ball, and the chance was gone. That’s the major area of improvement that must come in Savinho’s game.
Once he adds more composure to his play and quality, Savinho has all of the attributes to become a world-class winger. We have seen that this season. In 39 appearances in all competitions, he has scored 2 goals and added 12 assists. He also has the ability to get himself into dangerous positions which cannot be taught. The next step for the 20-year-old Brazilian international is to improve his finishing and add more composure to his play in the final third. Once he does that Manchester City will have another top quality winger on their hands.
