FC Barcelona once again showed their dominant side on the pitch last night as they beat Real Betis with a 5-1 scoreline in the Copa del Rey Round of 16 tie.
These five goals for the Blaugranes were scored by five different players, with Gavi, Kounde, Raphinha, Ferran Torres, and Lamine Yamal all getting on the scoresheet. Barcelona loanee Vitor Roque also scored a goal in this game, as he converted a penalty in the 84th minute for his Real Betis side.
But in addition to the attack, the Blaugrana defense also performed at quite a high level in this game. As has been the case throughout this season, Pau Cubarsi was once again unbeatable, as he kept the Verdiblanco forwards quiet and also contributed well to the offensive game with his passing.
As Mundo Deportivo has reported, the defender also talked to the media after the match. Cubarsi revealed the team wanted to put in a similar performance in front of their fans as they did in Saudi Arabia a few days ago against Real Madrid:
“We wanted to convey to the fans the good football we played in the Supercup, and I believe we have achieved that with this result.”
The Spaniard was clear that the Christmas holidays benefited the team, helping them recover from their dip in form: “It’s our rhythm, we can’t take our foot off the accelerator, we have to keep going like this. It’s true that we had that dip in November-December. The break did us good.”
It is almost a full year since Cubarsi made his debut with the Barcelona first team, and he was rather satisfied with how things have gone since that time:
“I take away a very positive balance. It’s been exactly a year since I debuted, and I want to transmit security to the fans and the coach. I want to keep going like this, fighting in every training session to play for this team.”
Lastly, he also praised Lamine Yamal but did not make any controversial remarks about the winger’s goal that was ruled out for offside:
“I’ve enjoyed watching Lamine for many years. It’s a pleasure to see him play, and I wish him all the best. The offside? I don’t know. We haven’t seen the offside, but if they ruled it out, there must be a reason.”
Following this game, Cubarsi will be thinking of helping his team recover their form in La Liga, where they are going to face Getafe this Saturday. Hopefully, he will continue performing at the level he has shown up to now, and help his side gain more trophies in the months to come.
